Can Experiencing Inner Lights or Inner Sounds Signal Direct Communication with God?

Who wouldn’t want to talk to God directly?

If you’ve ever wondered why Buddhist and Catholic Monks chant you’re about to find out the hidden reason. And they don’t even know! As a boy as I would sit by my bed and pray, telling God what I wanted and what I was grateful for. Sometimes I would hear this high-pitched humming or buzzing sound. Once in awhile it would roar thru my head like a freight train. Years later would I learn that this sound was the sound of consciousness, and that it was communication with God.

If You’ve Ever Heard A Sound Within Or Seen A Little Inner Blue or White Light

While the Bible relates the story of Paul of Tarsus being struck by the light many people have had more subtle experiences with inner light and/or inner sound. The experience is more often gentle, and on occasion overwhelming. Either way it signals a spiritual change in consciousness and direct communication with God. The sounds may seem like that of a flute, the ocean, bells, hissing, bees and others. Each reflects a different state of consciousness, a different heaven within. The reason many people don’t hear them: the steady noise of the mind.

How To Hear The Sound of Spirit

In high school a friend happened across a book called “Eckankar: Keys to Secret Worlds” by Paul Twitchell. (Eckankar is Sanskrit and means “You as a Co-worker with God”). In it Twitchell talked about out-of-body experience, and introduced me to the real me - SOUL. He also talked about the many inner worlds I could explore, and how direct experience with the inner light and inner sounds of God could bring spiritual freedom and an understanding of my life’s purpose. Best of all he provided me with exercises for contacting the Light and Sound. (We’re talking real experience here, not symbolism or imagination). I started to use these exercises, trying to repeat my earlier experience. And I did! Little did I know the spiritual adventure had just begun.

The book spoke about words I could sing or chant as a bridge to hear the inner sounds of God, and how the inner sounds could take me to higher states of consciousness and on inner travels. It explained that contemplation was dynamic and experiential, whereas meditation is a more passive and still approach. He described these inner worlds, including the sounds of each world or plane – physical, astral (emotional), causal (memories), mental (mind) and etheric (subconscious). Beyond these lay the worlds of Soul, beyond space and time. What an adventure.

Beyond The OM: Chanting the Word HU

OM (or Aum) is the chant for tapping into the sound or consciousness of the mental plane. It is one of the many sounds from God. An example of it’s use is when someone asks you a question and you hesitate by saying “um…” . In essence you are tapping into the mind consciousness for an answer. It’s not a bad thing as the mental world is filled with spiritual experiences. But there are worlds beyond space and time, beyond the mind, to be explored if you have the courage.

Even as a boy I heard sounds within myself, humming and buzzing sounds. But until then I didn’t know this was actually how God communicates with us, something anyone can hear by practicing spiritual exercises and giving inner attention to it. Besides the word OM there is also the word HU, a pure Love song to God.

A SPIRITUAL EXPERIMENT YOU CAN TRY: Sing the word OM a few times. Open your heart to it and notice any sensations within yourself. Next try singing the word HU (It is pronounced HU, like HUGH) in a drawn out fashion 2-3 times – as in HUUUuuuu.

While the OM brings a sense of calm and quiet to the mind, you may have noticed that the word HU has an uplifting effect, a sense of the heart opening. Perhaps you feel lighter, or that the room is lighter. Both are wonderful, and each opens the consciousness in different ways. The OM works in the mental consciousness, the HU works with God consciousness.

The word HU, an ancient Sanskrit word for God and the original root of the word God, has a unique ability to open ones heart to Gods love and guidance. It is the sound behind all sounds in life. Used before bed the HU can open your consciousness to dream travel, and to experience with the Light and Sound of God. This Light and Sound is God’s most direct communication.

Even More Adventures Within

There’s more I’d like to share, including experiences with the sound, Eck Masters, past life revelations, and the Mahanta, the Light and Sound itself, a state of consciousness already within you that is a direct link with God.

But for now I’ll just leave you with this: God loves you, you exist because God loves you, and everything in your life is to teach you about that love. You are Soul. That’s the single purpose of life.
